Cronin Scores Four as No. 8 Dowling Tops Bentley

BROOKHAVEN, N.Y Junior midfielder Cassandra Cronin scored a game-high four goals as No. 8 Dowling defeated Bentley University 19-5 in non-conference women's lacrosse on Sunday afternoon. The Golden Lions improve to 5-4 with the win while the Falcons fall to 5-6.

Dowling led 2-0 after 3:15 of action on goals by senior Brianna Falese and Cronin, but Bentley rallied to tie. Junior Leigh Tedeschi (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) scored just 32 seconds after Cronin's goal, which was followed by a Dovlyn Curtis (Mendham, N.J./West Morris Mendham) goal at 24:43.

Sophomore Kim Harrington and Falese scored 42 seconds apart to give the Golden Lions a 4-2 lead, which was followed by a Cori Geiger (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) goal for Bentley. Geiger's goal only temporarily halted Dowling's momentum though, as they ran off seven straight goals to take an 11-3 lead.

Cronin scored twice during the run, including a man-up goal. Junior Sam Messineo also scored twice with a man-up tally.

Freshman Taylor Bastien (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) broke up the run with a goal with 3:25 left in the half, but Cronin netted her fourth of the half with 1:23 remaining to give the Golden Lions a 12-4 halftime advantage.

Bastien scored her second of the game for Bentley in the second half, and Messineo and Stephanie Cotter scored for Dowling to complete hat tricks.

Bentley returns to NE-10 play on Wednesday night when they host New Haven at 7:00 p.m.
