Dominican Charges Past Post University

Orangeburg, NY (4/13/10) -- The Dominican College women's lacrosse team charged past the visiting Eagles of Post University, 21-6, this afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action at the DC Lacrosse Field.

The Eagles took a 1-0 lead just thirty-eight seconds into the first half, but the Lady Chargers answered back with their first goal of the game less than a minute later on the unassisted shot by freshman Elizabeth Schmidt (Montgomery, NY).

DC then went on to score eight straight goals to complete a 9-0 run and jump ahead 9-1. Schmidt, juniors Silje Karlsen (Vernon, NJ) and Sarah Kiernan (Saugerties, NY) and sophmore Aubree Williams (Great Meadows, NJ) all had two goals each in the run.

An Eagle goal broke up the run to make the score 9-2, but Dominican went on another scoring tear to close the first half with seven unanswered goals to take a 16-2 lead. Karlsen added four more goals to complete the double hat-trick, while Kiernan netted two more goals and Schmidt netted her third goal of the game.

The Lady Chargers opened up the second half with two consecutive goals to finish a second 9-0 run as freshman Michelle Fiorvanti (Commack, NY) tallied her first goal of the game. Junior Amanda Matos (Vernon, NJ) scored her first goal of the game to increase the DC lead to 18-2. A Post run of 2-0 made the score 18-4 with 20:08 left in regulation, but DC closed out the game Post 3-2 for the 21-6 victory. Kiernan netted her fourth goal of the game, while Heather Breittholz (Wallkill, NY) added a goal and Fiorvanti netted her second goal of the game.

Seven different Lady Chargers scored goals during the game, led by Karlsen with six goals and one assist for seven points. Kiernan netted four goals and two assists for six points and Schmidt tallied four goals and one assist for five points. Williams finished with four points (2g, 2a), while Matos and Fiorvanti each had three points (2g, 1a). Teammate Jessica Bianchi (East Islip, NY) had two assists in the win.

Starting goalie Lindsey Grundfast (Saugerties, NY) made two saves in 30:00 of action, while Heather Wannamaker (Blauvelt, NY) played the final 30:00 and had one save.

With the victory Dominican improse to 3-7 overall and 3-6 in the CACC.
