Beavers Blanked in Battle with Eagles

FARMINGTON, Maine -- Husson University used a nine-goal outburst in the second quarter to propel the Eagles to a 22-0 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington in North Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse competition today at Prescott Field.

The Beavers (1-5 overall, 0-5 in the NAC) are scheduled to visit Green Mountain College Saturday at 3:00 p.m. The Eagles (6-6, 5-1) are scheduled to host Thomas College Saturday at 2:30 p.m.

Ben Landry (Lewiston, ME) tallied eight goals to lead the Husson attack with Anthony Diaz (Brunswick, ME) and Mitch Heaps (York, PA) each recording four goals and three assists. Derrick Schlimm (Hanover, PA) added four goals and Nick Brown (Sabattus, ME) pitched in two goals and two assists in the win.

The Beavers withstood the Eagles over the opening quarter, allowing only a single goal by Diaz over the first 11:07 of the game. Husson ended the first with a 4-0 lead.

Landry netted four of his game-high total in the second as the visitors rolled out a 13-0 command after two quarters. Diaz and Heaps each provided two goals in the frame.

Husson held a 73-11 advantage in shots and Farmington could not put any of of three man-up opportunities in the second half to use as the Eagles rolled to the 22-0 win.

David Smith (Fryeburg, ME) corralled nine ground balls and Landry, Alex Ryan (Northfield, NH) and Matt Tabler (Catonsville, MD) each had eight as Husson dominated defensively with a 79-36 ground ball command and converting 11 of 11 clear attempts.

Tyler Quinn (McLean, VA) and John Hooper (Wakefield, RI) split netminding duties for the Eagles. Quinn and Hooper each made a save.

Matthew Nutter (Swampscott, MA) and Aaron Burr (Brooklyn, CT) shared goalkeeping responsibilities for Farmington. Nutter made 12 saves, while Burr stopped six shots.

Casey Morey (Glastonbury, CT) collected five ground balls to lead the Beavers.
