No. 12 St. John Fisher Downs No. 19 RIT to Go 12-0

The nationally-ranked St. John Fisher College men's lacrosse team raised its record to 12-0 overall and 4-0 in the Empire 8 Conference, as the Cardinals picked up a 12-9 win over visiting Rochester Institute of Technology on Wednesday.

Fisher, ranked 12th nationally and one of only four undefeated teams in the nation, is enjoying a College-record 12-game winning streak and if off to the best start in the program's nine-year history.

With the loss, R.I.T., who entered the game ranked No. 19 in the latest USILA Poll, falls to 7-5 overall and 2-2 Empire 8.

Kyle Denhoff (Penfield) led the Cardinals with five goals, including three in the fourth quarter, while Mitch Ritchie (McQuaid) added two goals and two assists. Jeff Price (HF-L) and Ryan Schmidt (Whitesboro) each finished with two goals and one assist, while Dave Malone (one goal) and Mike Cummins (one assist) each picked up a point.

Goalie Jon Cortina (Binghamton) stopped 11 shots, including four in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead during the opening five minutes, but Fisher came storming back, scoring seven straight goals, including six in the final 8:10 of the first quarter.

R.I.T., however, pulled to within a goal by halftime at 7-6, scoring four goals in the final 5:12 in the second quarter.

Both teams scored one goal in the third quarter. Fisher's Ryan Schmidt pushed his team's lead to 8-6 just four minutes in the second half, but R.I.T.'s M.J. Kiekebelt pulled the Tigers back to within a goal nearly one minute later.

R.I.T. tied the game up at 8-8 90 seconds in the fourth quarter, but the Cardinals answered right back, scoring the game's next three goals in A 3:08 span. Price put Fisher up for good with 8:53 remaining off a pass from Ryan Schmidt.

Denhoff scored the next two goals for Fisher, and after an RIT goal with just over five minutes left, the sophomore midfielder closed out the scoring with his team-leading 36th goal of the year with 2:22 remaining.

Fisher will return to action at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Nazareth College.
