Mount Saint Vincent Wins Key Skyline Victory over MSM

Riverdale, N.Y. -- Senior Kelly Martin (Stony Point, N.Y.) totaled 11 points on seven goals and four assists in Mount Saint Vincent?s critical 22-11 Skyline Conference win over Mount Saint Mary. Martin was one of five Dolphins with at least two goals with Jessie Mitchell (Suffern, N.Y.) adding five markers.

After Mount Saint Mary carried the play in the opening minutes and scored the first goal of the contest, the Dolphins responded with seven of the next eight goals on their way to a 12-4 lead at halftime. Martin tallied three of her seven markers in the opening 30 minutes.

The Blue Knights opened the second half by scoring three of the first four goals in the stanza and used a four goal run in the middle part of the period to get to within 14-11 with 14:52 left in regulation.

Mount Saint Vincent would not allow the visitors any closer in the game after the Dolphins scored the final eight goals of the contest. Martin scored three over that stretch and assisted on another.

Martin had a strong overall day for the Dolphins, recording seven draw controls and a groundball to go with her 11 points. Mitchell finished with eight draw controls and a pair of groundballs for the Mount with Lauren Perla (Holbrook, N.Y.) adding a pair of tallies and four draw controls.

Erin Woerner (Kings Park, N.Y.) and Katie Tucci (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) added four goals and three goals respectively and senior goalie Jackie Horn (Setauket, N.Y.) made eight saves to earn the win.

The Blue Knights were paced by Ellen Cashin and Sharon Cranwell who each tallied four times. Cashin finished with four draw controls while Cranwell scooped four groundballs. Emily Frolino made nine saves for Mount Saint Mary in the cage.

Overall in the game Mount Saint Vincent outshot Mount Saint Mary 37-24, while groundballs were even at 16 apiece. The Dolphins also held the edge in draw controls 22-13.

The win pushes Mount Saint Vincent to 3-4 overall on the season and to 3-2 in Skyline Conference play. The Dolphins will be back in action again on Saturday night when they host league rival Ramapo. Opening draw with the Roadrunners at Columbia University's Baker Field Complex is set for 7:00 p.m.
