Wesley Routs Trinity (DC) in Season-Ending Game
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Wesley College scored the first 18 goals of the game to pick up a season-ending win against Trinity (DC) 18-1.
The Wolverines (8-8) already led 3-0 before tallying nine goals in the final 15 minutes of the first half, capped by two Nina Cornog (Wilmington, Del./Concord) scores in the final 24 seconds for a 12-0 halftime lead.
Wesley's first goal of the second half was the team's 184th of the season, a new school record. The Wolverines added five more goals to run their season total to 189 before Trinity (1-8) got a late goal from Brenda Martinez for the Tigers lone score of the game.
Cornog finished with three goals, three assists and three caused turnovers. Alyssa Prudente (Hereford, Md./Hereford) had two goals and two assists. Sheree Pleasanton (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna) added two goals and an assist, while Meggan Apgar (Smyrna, Del./St. Thomas More) scored twice as well. Nine other Wolverines scored one goal each.
Alyssa Batty (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) and Amanda Hudson (Frederica, Del./St. Thomas More) each played a half in goal for Wesley and made two saves apiece.
The Wolverines finish the 2010 season at 8-8, the second most wins in a season for the program and the most since 2003. Wesley's .500 winning percentage is also tied for the second best in school history.
