Condon Nets Six to Lead Marist Past Manhattan

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. Sophomore attack Kelly Condon (Roslyn, Pa.) outscored the Manhattan Lady Jaspers all by herself Friday night, leading the Marist women's lacrosse team to an 18-5 win Friday night at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field. She added a pair of assists for eight points on the night, her second consecutive game with eight. Jori Procaccini (Long Valley, N.J.) added four goals.

Manhattan (2-11, 0-3 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) got on the board first as Phelicia VanOverbeke scored with 27:46 to go in the first half to give the Lady Jaspers a 1-0 lead. Marist (6-6, 3-1 MAAC) responded with the next 11 goals of the game. Lindsay Rinefierd (Smithtown, N.Y.) started the barrage with her 15th goal of the season to the game with 25:49 remaining in the half. Condon, Procaccini, and Erin Wilson (Ada, Mich.) then added goals to put the Red Foxes ahead 4-1 with 17:38 left in the first. Morgan Dillon (Freeport, N.Y.), Lauren Ciccarello (Wantagh, N.Y.), and Shannon Haas (Farmingdale, N.Y.) also scored during the run, which put Marist ahead 11-1 with 1:21 to go in the half. The Red Foxes led 12-2 at halftime after a Procaccini goal with 41 seconds left in the period.

The Red Foxes scored seven of the first eight goals in the second half. Dillon and Condon scored in the first seven minutes of the half to increase Marist's lead to 12, 14-2. After Chrissy Gutenberger made the score 14-3 with 21:43 to go in the game, Rinefierd, Condon, and Procaccini combined for the next for Marist goals to take an 18-3 lead with 5:59 remaining in the contest.

Marist's win, combined with Canisius' win at Siena, put the Red Foxes in second-place in the MAAC with a 3-1 record. The Red Foxes outshot Manhattan 29-18 and had 24 ground balls to the Lady Jaspers' 13. Alyssa Littin (Coronado, Calif.) and Ashley Casiano (South Windsor, Conn) combined to make seven saves in the win for Marist. VanOverbeke scored four of Manhattan's five goals.

The Red Foxes return to action on Sunday, April 18 with a 12:00 p.m. game at Iona.

Poughkeepsie, N.Y (April 16, 2010) -- The Manhattan College women's lacrosse team fell to Marist University 18-5 Friday night at Marist. Kelly Condon tallied six goals for Marist, while Manhattan's Phelicia VanOverbeke netted four goals.

The Lady Jaspers were ahead early, getting a goal at 27:46 from VanOverbeke but then Marist scored 11 unanswered goals to make the score 11-1 before VanOverbeke scored again at 1:21. But Marist scored one more time before the half ended to go into the locker room up 13-2.

The two teams traded goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half, with Chrissy Gutenberger scoring her 31st goal of the season, but then Marist (now 6- 6 overall and 3-1 in the MAAC) went on another run before VanOverbeke scored her third goal with 2:44 in the match. She tallied her fourth goal with 47 seconds left.

Defensively for Manhattan (now 2-11 and 0-3 in the MAAC), Keri Morrison and Elizabeth Dugan picked up two ground balls each and Ashley McHale and Breana Leonard caused two turnovers each.

Manhattan's next match is Sunday at 1:00 p.m. when it takes on Fairfield University at Fairfield.
