Washington & Jefferson Edges Trine on Late Goal

GAMBIER, Ohio -- Junior attacker Courtney Schrock (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks West) scored twice in the final 10 minutes to lift Washington & Jefferson College to a 6-5 women's lacrosse victory over Trine University (Ind.) Saturday at Kenyon College.

The Presidents (10-3) won for the ninth consecutive time away from home this season. Dating back to last season, W&J has won 13 straight road games. Washington & Jefferson also clinched its first 10-victory season in the program's three-year history.

Trine led by a 4-2 margin at halftime and kept the advantage until Schrock's goal with 9:59 remaining tied the game at 5-5. Schrock found the back of the net again at the 7:21 mark and the Presidents escaped with the win.

Schrock led all scorers with four goals, while sophomores Liz Turcik (Ligonier, Pa./Miss Halls School) and Joanne Chojecki (Lake View, N.Y./Frontier Senior) both scored one goal.

Junior Shannon Wagner (Venetia, Pa./Peters Twp.), sophomore midfielder Kerri Nunnamaker (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) and freshman midfielder Brittany Fradkin (Owings Mills, Md./St. Paul's SFG) all recorded one assist during the win.

Freshman goalie Julia McLellan (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) collected four saves and sophomore defender Cayla Grodotzke (Merrick, N.Y./Sanford H. Calhoun) picked up three draw controls.

Washington & Jefferson can seal a perfect 10-0 record in road contests Tuesday when it travels to Frostburg State for a 7:00 pm match.
