Maritime Snaps Losing Streak with Romp at Bard

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. (April 17, 2010) The Maritime women's lacrosse team snapped its nine-game losing streak with a 14-2 victory over conference-opponent Bard on the road Saturday afternoon. The win improves the Privateers' record to 2-9 overall (1-4 Skyline), while the Raptors fall to 1-8 overall (0-8 Skyline).

Junior Jill Davenport (Miller Place, N.Y.) and sophomore Catherine Brady (Holbrook, N.Y.) both scored four goals apiece to lead Maritime. The Privateers also got pairs of goals from senior Heather Christiansen (Baldwin, N.Y.) and sophomore Kristen Saportio (Rocky Point, N.Y.), while Christiansen notched the only assist on the day. Freshmen Kristen Wilson (Baldwin, N.Y.) and Jorrie Trenkamp (Tabrenacle, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for Maritime. Saporito was the team's leader in ground balls with 10 and draw controls with seven.

In net for the Privateers, senior Meagan Golden (Point Pleasant, N.J.) was solid making six saves over the duration of the game.

Maritime opened the scoring 4:30 into the game when Saporito scored. The Privateers earned the next two goals, before expanding their lead to 7-2 before the end of the first half. The second half was all Maritime, as the squad tallied seven more goals to claim the victory.

The Privateers return to action tomorrow, April 18, when they travel to Keuka Park, N.Y. to take on non-conference opponent Keuka (5-5 overall, 5-1 NEAC). Game time against the Storm is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
