UMass Dartmouth Dispatches Southern Maine

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Senior Andrew Foster (Danvers, Mass.) and junior Josh Arsenault (Revere, Mass./Malden Catholic) combined for nine goals and five assists as the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth defeated the University of Southern Maine, 15-11, in a Little East Conference game Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field.

The win lifts the Corsairs back to the .500 mark at 6-6 overall, and improved their LEC record to 2-1. The Huskies dropped their sixth consecutive game to slide to 2-8 overall and 0-3 in the conference.

Foster scored a game-high six goals and had an assist, and Arsenault added three goals and four assists to pace the Corsairs attack. Sophomore Christian Roberto (Wakefield, Mass./Malden Catholic) had two goals and a pair of assists, and junior Bobby Smith (Wakefield, Mass.) added two goals. Sophomore goalie Cameron Crown (Walpole, Mass.) registered 12 saves to pick up the win.

Southern Maine had 12 players pick up a point in the game led by freshmen Mark White (Oakville, Ontario) who had two goals and one assist, and Derek Beaulieu (Brunswick, Maine) who garnered a goal and two assists. Sophomore Dan Thomas (Shrewsbury, Mass.) contributed two goals. Sophomore goalie Kyle Dussault (Lewiston, Maine) stopped 12 shots.

Down 5-4 after a high-scoring first quarter, the Huskies tied the game on a goal from freshman Colton Gale (South Windsor, Conn.) early in the second quarter. The Corsairs responded by scoring the next five goals to take a 10-5 lead into the halftime break. Foster and Arsenault each had two goals in the second quarter.

The Corsairs would outscore the Huskies, 5-1, in the third quarter to expand their margin to 15-6. Roberto scored twice, and Smith once, during the quarter. The Huskies put on a charge in the final quarter scoring five unanswered goals to close the final margin.

Southern Maine travels to Plymouth State University on Tuesday (4:00 p.m.) for another LEC contest. UMass Dartmouth will play at Eastern Connecticut State University on Tuesday (7:00 p.m.).
