Castleton Wins 10th of the Season, over Maine-Farmington

Castleton, VT - Nine different Spartans scored to lead Castleton State College to a 14-3 win over University of Maine-Farmington Sunday afternoon in non-conference womens lacrosse action at Spartan Stadium.

Castleton (10-4) reeled off the first nine goals of the contest before Farmington broke through with 22 seconds remaining in the first half. Marie VanDerKar (Manchester, VT) scored 5:12 into the game, converting her 46th goal of the season off a Stephanie Pearce (Shoreham, NY) assist. Katelyn Nardini (Scotia-Glenville, NY) converted an eight-meter free-position attempt, setting off a three-goal spurt over the next minute that effectively put the game away.

Castleton stretched its lead to 14-1 in the second half before a pair of Jessica Allen (Mexico, ME) markers made it 14-3.

Nicole Adams (Rutland, VT) led the offense with three goals and three assists, while VanDerKar added three goals and Pearce chipped in two goals, three assists. Stephanie Paproski (Newtown, CT), Elizabeth Haggerty (Centerport, NY), Angelica Mazzola (Centerport, NY), Nardini, Jennifer Macari (Central Islip, NY), and Amy Costa (Bristol, RI) rounded out the scorers with one goal apiece.

Alyssa Neptune (Readfield, ME) followed Allen in the Farmington scoring column with a single goal.

Lily Derbyshire (Little Compton, RI) earned the win in goal for Castleton, stopping five shots in the first half before giving way to Rebecca Duszak (Erieville, NY) for four save over the final 30 minutes.

Andrea Knox made eight saves in the loss for the 4-4 Beavers.

Castleton controlled play for much of the contest, limiting the Beavers to just 11 for 34 on clear attempts, and holding a 25-16 advantage in shots.

The Spartans return to action on April 21 when they travel to Keene State for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference affair.

Farmington will travel to Thomas on April 20, first draw scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
