Castleton Shuts out Farmington in NAC Clash

Castleton, VT - The Castleton State College men's lacrosse team received goals from 10 different players in earning a 19-0 shutout of the University of Maine-Farmington in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action Sunday afternoon at Spartan Stadium.

Castleton (7-5, 5-1 NAC) controlled the action for the duration of the contest against the first-year Beavers, owning a 59-10 advantage in shots and a 73-15 advantage in ground balls. Castleton was able to convert 21 of 23 clear attempts, while limiting the Beavers to just 3 for 23, forcing 41 turnovers in the process.

Castleton scored five goals in the opening period, eight in the second, five more in the third and one in the fourth.

Michael DelDotto (Reading, MA) scored a game-high four goals and added one assist for a five-point afternoon. Jeremy Peyton (Montpelier, VT) added three goals, and Kevin McCarthy (Johnson, VT) chipped in two goals and two assists. Jake Rick (Rochester, NY), Korey Counos (St. Albans, VT), and Brian McCarthy (Johnson, VT) each had two goals for the Spartans.

Matthew Nutter (Swanpscott, MA) was outstanding in between the pipes for Farmington (1-7, 0-7 NAC) stopping 19 shots in three periods, before being lifted for the final 15 minutes in favor of Aaron Burr (Brooklyn, CT).

David DeGhetto (Clifton, NJ) stopped the only shot that came his way in the first period to earn the win, while David Manghis (Acton, MA) made three saves over the final three periods to finish off the shutout.

The Spartans play host to NAC foe Green Mountain College on April 20, with the opening face-off scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

Farmington will travel to St. Joseph's (Me.) on April 21 for a 4:00 p.m. NAC tilt.
