Bobcats Blow by Nor'easters, 19-6, with Balanced Attack

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Eleven players recorded goals, as Bates College defeated the University of New England, 19-6, in non-conference women's lacrosse action Monday afternoon at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

The Bobcats, who have won all eight meetings against the Noreasters, improve to 6-5 on the season. The second straight loss drops UNE to 9-4.

Senior Morgan Maciewicz (Marblehead, Mass.) and sophomore Lindsay Thompson (Ipswich, Mass.) each tallied three goals for Bates, while Maciewicz added a pair of assists. Sophomore Joan ONeil (Westwood, Mass.) registered two goals and four helpers, and senior Molly Dilworth (Yarmouth, Maine) added two goals and two assists.

First-year Jenn Brallier (Chambersburg, Penn.) and junior Briana Gross (Andover, Mass.) chipped in with two goals apiece for the Bobcats.

Bates had a solid advantage in shots (41-13) and took 17 of 27 draw controls in the contest.

Trailing 9-1 with 5:09 left in the first half, UNE struck three times in 1:23 to slow the Bobcat attack. First-year Cara Cole (Norwood, Mass.), senior Kim Bilodeau (Durham, Maine), and junior Angel Jarmusz (Naperville, Ill.) found the back of the cage during the spurt.

The second half was controlled by Bates, which outscored the hosts, 9-2, to seal the victory.

Junior Danielle Cate (Boscawen, N.H.) led the Noreasters with two goals, while classmate Tara Geraghty (Barrington, R.I.) made 14 saves in goal.

Junior netminder Mara Krueger (St. Louis, Mo.) was credited for the win for the Bobcats in just over 37 minutes of action, recording one save.

Bates is scheduled to play Saturday on their home field against Trinity College (Conn.) at 2:00 pm.

UNE will host Gordon College on Wednesday in a TCCC match-up beginning at 6:30 pm.
