MSV Drops Skyline Contest to No. 18 Montclair State

Yonkers, N.Y. The College of Mount Saint Vincent Men's Lacrosse team dropped a Skyline Conference contest on Monday night to #18 Montclair St. by a score of 20-4. Mike Visintin (Yonkers, N.Y.) led the Dolphins with two goals, while the Red Hawks featured five players with multiple markers.

Montclair St. jumped out to an early lead on Monday and never looked back, tallying four times in the first four minutes of the game on its way to a 6-1 lead after the opening 15 minutes. Derek Valance (Glen Cove, N.Y.) would get the Mount on the board at the 3:31 mark of the first period with his 12th marker of the season.

The Red Hawks (11-3, 4-0 Skyline) did not back off in the second period, scoring the first four goals of the frame until Visintin netted his first of the night at the 5:58 mark. Montclair St. went on to outscore the Dolphins 7-1 in the second to carry a commanding 13-2 advantage into the half.

The Dolphins would muster only two goals after halftime on Monday night, both coming in the fourth quarter. After being shutout in the third, Visintin and Miller Celestin (Brooklyn, N.Y.) picked up goals in the fourth for the Mount. The Red Hawks scored seven of the nine goals in the half on their way to their fourth conference win of the season.

Taylor Bonner led the offensive attack with four goals and two assists, while Robert Sinicola finished with a pair of markers and four helpers. Tyler Meth chipped in with three goals for Montclair St. Marc Guido and Richie Lachner each picked up six groundballs in the winning effort.

Ken Valentine (Centereach, N.Y.) paced the Dolphins with five groundballs in the contest and Dan Cohen (Ardsley, N.Y.) and Cavan Valance (Glen Cove, N.Y.) each chipped in with an assist. Mike Nuzzi (Westbury, N.Y.) made 12 stops between the pipes for the Mount.

Overall in the game Montclair St. outshot the Dolphins 54-13 and picked up 55 groundballs to 21 for the Mount. The Red Hawks also dominated in face-offs, winning 19 of the 28 takes. Guido finished with 14 wins for Montclair St.

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent to 7-8 overall in 2010 and to 1-4 against Skyline Conference foes. The Dolphins will look to rebound on Wednesday night when they close out the league schedule against Richard Stockton. Face-off at Tibbetts Brook Park in Yonkers is set for 7:00 p.m.
