Spartans Blank Eagles for Second Straight NAC Shutout

Castleton, VT - Castleton State College raced out to a 9-0 first period lead before settling in for a 21-0 win over Green Mountain College in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) men's lacrosse action Tuesday evening at Spartan Stadium. The Spartans have not allowed a goal in 126 minutes of action, dating back to Saturday's win over Maine Maritime.

Samuel Bailey (Hartford, VT) led the Spartan attack with four goals and one assist, while Nohea King (St. Albans, VT) scored two goals and added four helpers in the one-sided affair. Jeremy Peyton (Montpelier, VT) chipped in three goals and two assist, Daniel Luzzi (Oakland, NJ) two goals and one assist, Michael DelDotto (Reading, MA) two goals, and Evan Cassidy (South Burlington, VT) chipped in one goal and one assist to round out the multi-point scorers for the Spartans.

Castleton (8-5, 6-1 NAC) out-shot the Eagles 42-11, while owning the battle of possession with a 71-16 advantage in ground balls, and a 19-5 advantage in the face-off circle. Castleton forced 36 Green Mountain turnovers, while converting on 18 of 19 clear attempts to 14 of 30 for the Eagles. David DeGhetto (Clifton, NJ) earned the win in net for Castleton stopping all four shots that came his way during the first half. David Manghis (Acton, MA) made the only save necessary to finish off the shutout.

Green Mountain (1-8, 1-6 NAC) goalie Keith Drinkwine (Delmar, NY) made 10 saves in the loss.

The Spartans return to action on April 24 when they travel to St. Joseph's College (Me.) for a 1:00 p.m. NAC face-off. Green Mountain plays host to conference-leading Mount Ida College Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
