Marywood Clinches Playoff Berth with Win over Rosemont

Scranton, PA Marywood University's women's lacrosse team clinched their second-straight Colonial States Athletic Conference playoff berth and established a new program records for wins in a season with a 23-1 victory over Rosemont College on Tuesday evening. The Pacers, who also snapped a four-game losing skid with the win, improve to 8-6 on the season and end conference play with a 4-4 record.

After non-conference games against Alfred University and Hartwick College to close out the regular season, Marywood's CSAC playoff seed will be determined by Saturday's game between the College of Notre Dame and Immaculata University in Baltimore.

Marywood jumped out to an early, 4-0 lead over the first 2:33 of Tuesday evening behind a pair of goals by Taylor McKeown (Nashua, NH) and one apiece from Meg Barbarino (Endwell, NY) and Sarah Collins (Brooklyn, NY). The Pacers would stretch their lead to 9-0 with 20:30 to play as McKeown, Kelly Kuzicki (Vernon, NJ), Kelly Kryspin (Hopatcong, NJ), Allie Sodl (Coplay, PA), and Alexis Willey (Hummelstown, PA) scored goals during the run.

Elizabeth Kemp would get Rosemont on the board by breaking through the center of the Pacers' defense and beating goalie Katie Sullivan, but Marywood would score the final eight goals of the first half to hold a commanding 17-1 advantage at the intermission. Barbarino, Sodl, Kuzicki, Willey, and Kryspin would each net their second markers of the contest before sophomore defender Stephanie Naro (Dunmore, PA) netted the first goal of her career with 6:53 to play and junior Alexis Boyle (Sparta, NJ) matched the feat with 2:43 to play. Collins added her second goal of the contest with 56 seconds on the clock to close out the first-half scoring.

Mary-Christine Vignola (New Market, MD), Carrie Glenn (Rifton, NY), and Kryspin tallied for Marywood in the first 9:44 of the second half before freshman Ilze Spilde (Mohnton, PA) found the net for her first collegiate goal at the 18:33 mark. Jennifer Silvestri (Warwick, NY) scored off a feed from Glenn with 16:08 to play before Sullivan (Merrick, NY), who made three saves in nearly 44 minutes in Marywood's cage, netted her first collegiate goal with 12:50 to play to close out the scoring.

Marywood, who got points from all 14 of their player, were led Alexis Willey's five-point game, which came on two goals and three assists. McKeown (three goals, one assists) and Barbarino (2 goals, 2 assists) added four points apiece as the Pacers held a commanding 44-7 advantage in shots on goal and a 40-16 edge in groundballs while controlling 19 of the game's 26 draws. Sullivan picked up in the net while Vignola played the final 16:08 in Marywood's net, making one save.

Rosemont, who fell to 0-10 on the season (0-6 CSAC) had goalie Chatiera Wiggins make 13 saves in nearly 44 minutes of action while Simone Green played the final 16:08 without making a save.

Marywood returns to action tomorrow evening when they host Alfred University in a non-conference game scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Scranton.
