Shorewomen Brave Water, Gators for 17-4 Win
BALTIMORE, MD -- After an early 3-3 tie, visiting Washington College scored 14 of the game's final 15 goals en route to a 17-4 women's lacrosse victory over host College of Notre Dame this afternoon on a rain-soaked Alumnae Field. With the victory, the Shorewomen improved to 8-6 and secured their first winning season since going 9-8 in 2004. The Gators fell to 6-7 with the loss.
Freshman attacker Corinne Ziccardi (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven) scored three goals and assisted on another to lead a balanced Washington offense. Freshman attackerBritton Preroff (Baltimore, MD/Bryn Mawr) scored three goals of her own, while junior attacker Sarah Cannon (Baltimore, MD/Notre Dame Prep) had two goals and two assists.
Sophomore attacker Kalli Parrish (Timonium, MD/McDonogh School) tallied two goals and one assist, and freshman midfielder Mollie Shipley (Denville, NJ/Morris Catholic) scored two goals.
Junior midfielder Sam Ohrem (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield)scored one goal and handed out three assists, while senior midfielder Allie Hanzsche (Catonsville, MD/Mount de Sales) scored one goal and had two assists and senior attacker Catherine Habel (Gaithersburg, MD/Watkins Mill) finished with one goal and one assist.
Allison Terry scored three of Notre Dame's four goals in the game.
Washington held a 29-12 advantage in shots, including a 14-4 edge in the second half. The Shorewomen close out their season Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. Centennial Conference home game against Muhlenberg.
