Nor'easters Come Back to Defeat Fighting Scots

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Senior Dani Wood (Scarborough, Maine) put home an unassisted goal with 2:30 left to play to break an 11-all tie and give the University of New England a 12-11 victory over Gordon College in The Commonwealth Coast Conference women's lacrosse action Wednesday evening at Barbara J. Hazard Field.

First-year Cara Cole (Norwood, Mass.) scored her second goal of the match with just under nine minutes remaining to pull the Nor'easters back even, after surrendering five straight goals to the Fighting Scots over an 18-minute span.

Gordon senior Katie Knaus (Kensington, Conn.) reeled off the final four markers of the stretch, with the last one pushing the visitors in front (11-10) for the only time all game.

Junior Danielle Cate (Boscawen, N.H.) scored a team-high five goals for UNE (10-4, 8-2 TCCC), which defeated Gordon for the first time since the 2001 season (8 meetings). Senior Kim Bilodeau (Durham, Maine) added a pair of scores.

Knaus finished with a game-high seven goals, in addition to seven draw controls. Sophomore Jordan Alexander (Portland, Maine) chipped in with three markers for the Fighting Scots (5-7, 5-5 TCCC). First-year goalie Amelia Vierstra (Concord, Mass.) recorded 14 saves.

Big Blue led throughout most of the opening frame, and went into the break with an 8-5 advantage.
