Dolphins Falter Against Kean in Key Skyline Matchup

Brooklyn, N.Y. The College of Mount Saint Vincent Women's Lacrosse team was tripped up by league rival Kean on Thursday night by a score of 18-9. Junior Jessie Mitchell (Suffern, N.Y.) totaled six points, including four goals and senior Kelly Martin (Stony Point, N.Y.) finished with five points on three goals and a pair of helpers.

Kean jumped out to an early 9-0 lead in the contest and kept the momentum going to carry a commanding 15-2 advantage into halftime. Lyndsey Cannon scored all six of her goals in the first half on Thursday for the Cougars.

The Dolphins rallied in the second half to score the final six goals of the game to slice its deficit to nine, but would run out of time. Mitchell scored all four of her goals after halftime and Katie Tucci (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) added two goals in the second period. The Dolphins outscored the Cougars by a 7-3 margin after the half.

Mitchell finished the night with a team-high six points after adding two assists to her four markers. She also won four draw controls and picked up six groundballs on the night. Martin added three draw controls and three groundballs to her five point night. Tucci also added three draw controls and three groundballs for the Mount.

Cannon led the Kean attack with 10 points on her six goals to go along with four assists. Chelsea Davis added five markers for the Cougars and Stephanie Tacko netted three. Cannon also scooped five groundballs and won six draw controls for the visitors. Jules Kelley finished the night with 14 saves to earn the win in goal.

For the game Mount Saint Vincent was outshot 32-27 and Kean picked up 25 groundballs to 20 for the Dolphins. Kean also converted five of its eight free position chances and held a 17-12 edge in draw controls.

The loss drops Mount Saint Vincent back to the .500 mark overall on the season at 5-5 and to 4-3 in Skyline play. The Dolphins will close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Maritime. Opening draw in Throggs Neck is set for 1:00 p.m.
