Maritime Rallies Past Sage for Second Conference Victory

THROGGS NECK, N.Y. (April 22, 2010) Sophomore tri-captain Catherine Brady (Holbrook, N.Y.) scored a game-high six goals to lead the Privateers to an exciting come-from-behind victory over conference-opponent Sage, 13-12, Thursday night at Reinhart Field. The win improves Maritime's record to 3-10 overall (2-4 Skyline), while the Gators fall to 1-11 (1-6 Skyline).

Brady scored three goals in each half, including the game-winner with 3:57 remaining. She also picked up three draw controls and two ground balls in the victory. Senior Heather Christiansen (Baldwin, N.Y.) contributed a hat trick with three goals, while picking up four ground balls. Sophomore Kristen Saporito (Rocky Point, N.Y.) found the back of the net twice, including a goal late in the second half that gave the Privateers their first lead of the game, 12-11.

Freshman Jorrie Trenkamp (Tabernacle, N.J.) and junior Jill Davenport (Miller Place, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for Maritime with second-half goals. Trenkamp also picked up the squad's lone assist and was the team's leader with five ground balls. In net for Maritime, senior Meagan Golden (Point Pleasant, N.J.) stopped ten shots to claim the victory.

Maritime rallied back from a 5-1 first-half deficit to come within one goal at 6-5 before time expired in the opening period. In the second, the Sage lead never got past two goals. Brady and Trenkamp scored back to back to force the first tie of the game, 10-10, with 10:10 to play. Saporito finally gave the Privateers the lead, 12-11, at 6:09. The Gators answered with a goal at 4:45 to tie the score, 12-12, before Brady's game-winner at 3:57.

For Sage, Christina Gray led the team with five points (four goals and one assist), while Ginelle Butler scored a hat trick. Karali Weilacher and goalie Courtney Reed each had a team-high four ground balls apiece. Reed picked up the loss despite making 13 saves.

Up next for the Maritime women's lacrosse team is its final home game of the 2010 season. The squad will host Mount Saint Vincent this Saturday, April 24, at 1:00 p.m. at Reinhart Field.
