No. 11 Syracuse Orange Crushes Cincinnati

CINCINNATI The No. 11 Syracuse Orange (11-4, 5-1 BIG EAST) lacrosse team scored 13 first half goals and went on to defeat the University of Cincinnati (5-9, 0-5 BIG EAST), 19-3, in BIG EAST Conference action on Friday afternoon at Nippert Stadium.

UC got its first goal from MacKenzie Parsons at the 16:31 mark of the first half. Ali Mattingly scored on a free position attempt in the second half and Rachel Mercier closed out the scoring for the game with an unassisted goal at the 2:38 mark.

Katherine Russo and Haley Marvine split time in goal for the Bearcats, each finishing with four saves.

The Bearcats will finish the home portion of the 2010 schedule when they host Connecticut on Sunday, April 25, for a noon BIG EAST game. Seniors Jess Kazaks, Shannon Lynes, Patty Kelly, and Jen Mott will be recognized prior to the game for their contributions at UC.

CINCINNATI, Ohio The 11th-ranked Syracuse women's lacrosse team extended its winning streak to four with a 19-3 victory at Cincinnati on Friday, April 23, 2010. Syracuse improves its record to 11-4 overall, 5-1 in BIG EAST play. The Bearcats go to 5-9 overall, including an 0-5 mark in conference action.

Twelve different players scored for the Orange, led by senior Christina Dove's (Bel Air, Md.) four goals. She now has 231 goals in her career, one shy of the school career record held by Katie Rowan. Rowan scored 232 goals from (2006-09).

Syracuse took control of the game early, scoring the first five goals of the game. Dove scored three times, while Halley Quillinan (Glenmont, N.Y.) and Bridget Daley (Schenectady, N.Y.) also found the back of the net in the first 12 minutes of play. After MacKenzie Parsons recorded the Bearcats only goal of the first half at the 16:31 mark, Syracuse outscored Cincinnati 8-0 to take a 13-1 lead into the lockerroom at halftime.

The second half featured more Orange offense as it led by as many as 17 on its way to a season-high 19 goals and its largest margin of victory this season.

DePetris added three goals for the Orange, while Quillinan and freshman Michelle Tumolo (Mullica Hill, N.J.) had two goals and one assist apiece. Junior Tee Ladouceur (Slingerlands, N.Y.) dished out four assists to go along with a goal. In addition, Mandy Willison (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.), Trenna Hill (Nedrow, N.Y.), Alex Goldstein (Hunt Valley, Md.), Lindsey Connell (Tyngsboro, Mass.), Caz-Marie Norwich (Saint Paul, Minn.) and Tori Praino (Liverpool, N.Y.) also added goals. For Norwich and Praino, it was the first goals of their career. Senior Eileen Finn (Southington, Conn.) recorded a career high with two assists.

Syracuse recorded a season-high 45 shots, while limiting Cincinnati to 13. The Orange picked up 17 ground balls to 14 for the Bearcats, and won 16 of 24 draw controls. Syracuse goalkeeper Liz Hogan (Victor, N.Y.) recorded six saves and held SU's opponent to less than 10 goals for the eighth time this season. Two Bearcat goalkeepers combined for eight saves.

The Orange is back in action on Sunday for its final road game of the regular season when it takes on Louisville at 1:00 p.m.
