UC Davis Storms Past Fresno State in MPSF Match

FRESNO, Calif. -- Juinor Christina Corsa and freshman Hannah Mirza each netted three goals and an assist to lead UC Davis to a resounding 17-1 victory over Fresno State in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation women's lacrosse action at Bulldog Stadium Friday afternoon.

The Aggies improve to 10-4 for the season and 3-2 in conference play. The Bulldogs remain winless at 0-12 overall and 0-5 in MPSF matches.

Senior Britt Farquharson, junior Laura Martin and freshman Elizabeth Datino each added two goals for UC Davis. Farquharson also scooped up three draw controls, helping her team post a 16-3 margin in that category. Senior Molly Lapolla tallied a goal with two assists, while sophomore Vannessa Jamison led the Aggies defensively with two ground balls and three caused turnovers.

UC Davis scored 11 unanswered goals while holding Fresno State to just two shots in the first half. Corsa struck first with a goal less than 30 seconds after Jamison won the game's opening draw. Mirza then converted a Lapolla assist a half-minute later, then assisted Farquharson on her team's third goal just 83 ticks into the game.

Mirza and Corsa each scored two second-half goals to complete their hat tricks.

Fresno State's Heather Jack had her team's only score, finishing an assist from Allie Zacharaiades just a minute after the halftime break after Bulldog goalie Katie Wilbur had stopped two Aggie shots on the other hand.

Juinor Kjersten Nordmeyer assumed the starting chores at goalkeeper, tallying two saves on the two FSU shots before the break. She then gave way to fellow junior Alyssa Cranska, who posted a pair of saves against the lone Bulldog goal in her 30 minutes of work.

The Aggies return to action for their regular-season finale at Stanford. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
