Stony Brook Falls to Binghamton, 12-10

Vestal, N.Y. (April 24, 2010) Stony Brook University's women's lacrosse team fell to Binghamton, 12-10, in its season finale. Junior Samantha Djaha (East Islip, N.Y.) scored all three of her goals in the second half. Three different players scored two goals for Stony Brook (3-12, 1-5 America East), led by junior Courtney Bertolone (Farmingville, N.Y.) who also added an assist. Liz Zuern had three goals for Binghamton (2-11, 1-5).

Binghamton took a 3-0 lead before junior Melissa Cook (Bay Shore, N.Y.) scored a free-position goal. Less than two seconds later, Bertolone also scored a free-position goal to get the Seawolves within one. The Bearcats stretched the lead to 6-2, but a goal from Cook 32 seconds later, and an unassisted goal from sophomore Jackie Hughes (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) made it 6-4.

Binghamton scored three straight to end the first half with a 9-4 lead. Ali Castiglie's goal gave the Bearcats their biggest lead of the game, 10-4.

Djaha (two) and Bertolone scored Stony Brook's next three goals to make it a 10-7 game. The Bearcats' lead was stretched to five before goals from Djaha, Hughes and sophomore Abby Ford (Baltimore, Md.) made it 12-10 with 3:36 to go in regulation.

Freshman Jessica Romano (Massapequa, N.Y.) took Stony Brook's final shot, but that was saved.
