Kenyon Edges Wittenberg in Overtime

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – Freshman Devin Catlin scored three times, but it was senior Brad Harvey's goal 46 seconds into overtime that lifted the Kenyon College lacrosse team to a 9-8 win over Wittenberg University. The Wednesday night, non-conference victory improved the Lords' overall record to 2-0.

With 3:25 left in regulation, Kenyon's Nate Pritchard scored an unassisted goal to give the Lords an 8-7 advantage. The lead looked like it would hold up as the clocked ticked away the game's final seconds. With just over a half minute to play, however, Wittenberg's Travis Moore scored the equalizer and sent the game into overtime.

The start of the extra frame didn't seem to unfold the way the Lords wanted it to, as they were called for an illegal body check just 16 seconds in. Playing a man down, the Lords still managed to regain possession of the ball, which found its way to Harvey and eventually slapped the back of the Wittenberg net. The goal was Harvey's first of the game and third of the season.

The contest featured five ties and two lead changes. The Lords took a 3-2 advantage after one period, but the Tigers knotted things up 4-4 by the half. The momentum remained in favor of Wittenberg and the Tigers moved ahead 6-4 early in the third. Kenyon, however, broke the wave and tied the game up again with goals from Luke Larson and Catlin.

Catlin wound up with three goals, while Larson added two goals and an assist. Sean Wheeler, who tied the game at 7-7, finished with a goal and an assist.
