Castleton Rolls to NEWLA Win over Framingham State

Castleton, VT - Senior Stephanie Pearce (Shoreham, NY) scored five goals to lead nine different Spartans in the scoring column as Castleton State College defeated Framingham State College 20-8 in New England Womens Lacrosse Alliance (NEWLA) action Saturday evening at Spartan Stadium.

With the win the Spartans improve to 11-5 overall and 5-1 in conference play, while Framingham State falls to 5-6, 1-3.

Castleton opened up a 6-1 lead 17 minutes into the contest and never looked back on senior night. Marie VanDerKar (Manchester, VT) opened the scoring five minutes into the contest, and Stephanie Paproski (Newtown, CT) scored two minutes later off a an assist from senior Nicole Adams (Rutland, VT). Stephanie Corrales (Framingham, MA) cut the lead in half, scoring her 25th goal of the season. Castleton answered with four-straight, including two from Pearce, and led 10-4 at the interval.

Castleton pushed its lead to 15-4 with 20 minutes left in the game, and cruised the rest of the way.

VanDerKar finished with four goals, six ground balls and five caused turnovers, while Angelica Mazzola (Centerport, NY) added three goals and two assists. Paproski finished with three goals and one assist, and Adams ended up with one goal and three assists. Aimee Goulette (Baldwinsville, NY), Corinne Healy (Jefferson Township, NJ) and Elizabeth Haggerty (Centerport, NY) each contributed one goal and one assist to round out the multi-point scorers.

Kerry Kiley (Mansfield, MA) scored a game-high six goals to lead the Rams, while Corrales added an assist to her goal and Chelsea Temple (Rutland, VT) chipped in a single marker.

Framingham State netminder Kelsey Turner (Billerica, MA) stopped 14 shots in the loss, while Lily Derbyshire (Little Compton, RI) stopped four in the win.

Castleton owned a 40-15 edge in shots, and forced 30 Ram turnovers to just 16 of their own.

Castleton will wrap up its regular season on May 1 when the Spartans travel to Worcester State for a 1:00 p.m. NEWLA match up.

Framingham State plays host to Elms College on April 27 at 4:00 p.m. in NEWLA action.
