No. 3 Dowling Charges Past Dominican College

Hillburn, NY- John McClure would have a game high 6 goals to lead the No. 3 ranked Men's Lacrosse team past the Dominican College Chargers, 19-7, to give the Golden Lions their 9th straight win.

Dowling would carry their 8 game streak into Saturday's competition while currently locked in a tight race for a spot in NCAA post season play. With the Chargers on a 6 game skid, the Golden Lions would not take the game for granted as any loss would seemingly knock them out of the playoff sprint.

The Golden Lions would get on the board just 13 seconds into the game as faceoff man Thomas Stellwagen would dish one out to Kyle O'Brien for the goal. Five more would go Dowling's way, with single shots from Brandon Bergersen and Joe Biondolillo while McClure would fire off the first three of his six on the day.

The Chargers would strike at the 5:16 mark as Jesse Peterson connected off an assist from Christopher Krutzler. Dominican would add one more before the break, but Dowling would maintain the 6-2 lead.

Connor Lawlor of Dominican would open up scoring in the 2nd period to pull his team within three, but that would be it for the Chargers in the first half as Dowling would go on a 6-0 run sparked by Vito DeMola with 11:34 on the clock, giving Dowling a 12-3 lead at the half.

Dominican would add one more in the third but not before the Golden Lions would tack on three thanks to Kevin Sabo, McClure, and DeMola, putting Dowling up 15-4.

The final period would go Dowling's way as well, with McClure adding two more and Bergersen and DeMola capping off the scoring to give Dowling the 19-7 victory over ECC foe Dominican.

Ryan Dougherty would record 5 saves for the win while Ryan Mayeda and George Diantgikis would total 3 on the day. Brendan Bonacum would tally 10 saves for Dominican while picking up the loss.

McClure would finish with 6 goals and an assist while O'Brien would add 2 goals and 4 assists. Sabo would come through for the Golden Lions with a pair of goals and assists. Bergersen would finish with 4 goals while DiMola would earn 3 goals and an assist.

Dowling improves to 10-1 with the win while the Chargers drop to 3-9. The Golden Lions will host Chestnut Hill College for their final regular season home game of 2010 on May 1st. The game, set for 7:00 PM, will also be senior day where all graduating seniors will be honored on the field.
