Ohio Wesleyan Doubles up Saint Vincent
DELAWARE, Ohio -- Freshman attacker Annie Swanson (McLean, Va./Langley) had 2 goals during a 5-0 run that gave Ohio Wesleyan the lead for good in a non-conference win over St. Vincent on Sunday at Selby Field.
The Bearcats had taken a 2-1 lead midway through the first half on scores by Megan Fisher and Alyssa Lang.
Senior midfielder Jessica Copeland (Ligonier, Pa./Foxcroft (Va.)) tallied the tying goal, evening the game at 2-2 with 10:44 left in the first half, and freshman midfielder Meredith Wholley (Brentwood, Tenn.) put the Bishops ahead to stay with an unassisted goal less than 2 minutes later.
Swanson converted a free-position shot less than a minute after that, and senior midfielder Abbey Miller (Wollwich, Maine/Morse) and Swanson followed with scores to cap a run of 5 goals in less than 4 minutes.
St. Vincent rallied to within 7-5, cutting the deficit with scores from Kelly Naugle, Anne Roslonski, and Alyssa Lang, the last with less than a minute to play in the first half.
Copeland came back to convert a free-position shot with :23 to play, restoring the momentum to Ohio Wesleyan, and with halftime abbreviated to 5 minutes because of multiple lightning delays, the Bishops were able to carry that over to the second half, opening the period with scores from senior defender Laura Bartholomae (Homeworth/Shaker Heights) and Miller to extend their lead to 10-5.
The Bishops put the game out of reach with a 4-0 second-half run, highlighted by a goal and an assist from Miller.
