Bentley Tops AIC 17-5 for Fifth Straight Win

WALTHAM, Mass. Freshman Cori Geiger's (Agawam, Mass./Agawam) four goals and sophomore Olivia Bouchard's (Warwick, R.I./ Loomis-Chaffee) three goals and two assists helped Bentley University defeat AIC 17-5 in Northeast-10 women's lacrosse on Sunday for the Falcons' fifth straight victory.

Bentley spread the offense around on this day with freshman Taylor Bastien (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) scoring three times and junior Leigh Tedeschi (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury), sophomore Megan Wiggins (Acton, Mass./Acton-Boxboro) and freshman Alex Carney (Providence, R.I./The Wheeler School) each adding two.

The Falcons outshot AIC 42-13 and also controlled possession by winning 17 of 23 draw controls and picking up 30 ground balls.

AIC kept it close for most of the first half, trailing 7-4 with three minutes left after Courtney Szawlowski scored the Yellow Jackets' second straight goal.

The Falcons though turned it on in the final minutes with four goals to lead 11-4 at halftime. Bastein, Wiggins and Carney with two straight, the last one with just one second left, were the scorers.

Bentley kept it going in the second half with four straight in the first nine-plus minutes. Bouchard and Geiger found the back of the net, followed by man-up goals from Geiger and Wiggins.

Sophomore goalie Kate Poznick (Fitchburg, Mass./St. Bernard's) made five saves in the first half for her third win of the year. AIC's Gina Gallo played well in the face of heavy pressure with 18 saves.

The Yellow Jackets fall to 7-7 on the season and 2-7 in the NE-10. Bentley, who improves to 10-6 overall and 7-3 in the NE-10, finishes the regular season at home Wednesday night against Southern New Hampshire.
