#3 College of New Jersey Clobbers Kean on Senior Night

Ewing, NJ...The College of New Jersey made Senior Night a winning one as the Lions' women's lacrosse team rounded out the home portion of the schedule with a 16-1 win over visiting Kean University on Sunday.

The win elevated the third-ranked Lions to 14-1 on the season and 4-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The loss dropped the Cougars to 7-9 overall and 1-4 in the conference.

Prior to the game, the Lions recognized the effort and dedication of their senior class with a brief ceremony. Seniors honored before the game were Robin Deehan (Morris Plains, NJ/Academy of St. Elizabeth), Lisa Malloy (New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt), and Lisa Seldeen (Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley).

All three of those seniors contributed offensively right off the bat as TCNJ dominated from the start. After nearly five scoreless minutes, the Lions reeled off six goals in a span of 4:15. Deehan got the initial goal in that run, while Seldeen assisted on the team's fourth goal scored by junior Ali Jaeger (Hampton, NJ/North Hunterdon). TCNJ's fifth goal came from Malloy with Deehan setting up sophomore Kathleen Notos (Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) for the final goal of that run.

The Lions scored the first 12 goals of the half before Kean got on the board as Amanda South (Fairless Hills, PA/Conwell-Egan Catholic) scored on an assist from Lyndsey Cannon (Delran, NJ/Delran).

Sophomore Sara Keating (Upper Montclair, NJ/Montclair) closed out the scoring in the opening half for TCNJ as the hosts led 13-1.

In the second half, the Lions controlled play scoring the only three goals of the period. Seldeen, freshman Jillian Nealon (Whitehouse Station, NJ/Hunterdon Central), and Deehan accounted for those three goals.

For the second straight game, the Lions dominated on draw controls winning 16 of 19 with Notos winning half of those.

Junior goalie Mary Waller (Bel Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) made three saves as she picked up her 30th career victory in a Lion uniform, while sophomore Shannon Syciarz (Garwood, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) stopped both shots she faced.

Notos led TCNJ's offense with four goals, while Deehan scored three times and set up two others. Sophomore Leigh Mitchell (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) had a five-point night with two goals and three assists and Jaeger scored twice and had two assists.

In addition to Deehan's five points, Malloy netted a pair of goals and Seldeen scored once and had two assists as the seniors accounted for 10 points on the night.

In goal for the Cougars, Jules Keeley (Ocean Twp., NJ/Ocean Twp.) finished with six saves.

Next up for the Lions is a road game at Stevens Institute of Technology on Thursday, while the Cougars host the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Tuesday.
