Players of the Week, Western Region, April 26

By Brett Manney

This week we focus more on defense--a defenseman helping his undefeated team out in Southern California and a red-hot defensive squad in the Pacific Northwest--along with a Michigan attacker leading his team against stiff competition.

Mike Riis, Defense, La Costa Canyon (CA)
With the Mavericks undefeated season on the line, Riis played a huge part in their 9-8 overtime win against Foothill- Santa Ana (CA). In addition to his great defensive play, the defenseman also chipped in on offense. Riis scored the game-winning goal with 15 seconds left in overtime to propel the Mavericks to another win in the Golden State.

Southridge Defense (OR)
It took a total team effort for the Skyhawks to shut down the hot offense of Sheldon in their 9-8 overtime victory. Sheldon came into the contest scoring 13 or more goals in four straight games. Yet behind a strong defensive team effort, the Skyhawks prevailed and hopefully their play elevates even more as Sunset (OR) looms ahead this week.

Jack Schueller, Attack, Ann Arbor Greenhills (MI)
Schueller came up huge for Ann Arbor Greenhills in their 11-7 victory over Ypsilanti (MI). The stellar attackman had six points on four goals and two assists to lead the Gryphons to their third win of the season.
