Maine-Farmington End First Season with Loss to Thomas

FARMINGTON, Maine -- Thomas College topped the University of Maine at Farmington 14-5 in North Atlantic Conference men's lacrosse action today at Prescott Field. The Beavers finished their inaugural campaign at 1-9 overall and 0-9 in the NAC. The Terriers (4-8, 3-6) await the NAC postseason seedings.

Josh Colello (Yarmouth, ME) netted six goals to lead Thomas with Kolby Peckham (Gardiner, ME) chipping in four goals and two assists and Sean Machin (Brunswick, ME) two goals and four assists. Kevin Averill (New Sharon, ME) provided a goal and three helpers in the win, while Jeff Banville (Dayton, ME) also added a goal.

Patrick Hurley (Goffstown, NH) tallied three goals for the Beavers, who were outshot 49-30, with Ethan Gilbert (York, ME) and Casey Morey (Glastonbury, CT) each registering a goal.

Colello scored three times in the opening 2:16 to get Thomas out a 3-0 lead. Peckham followed with a pair of scores to up the advantage to 5-0 with 9:06 left in the first. The Beavers were able to get a Gilbert unassisted goal and tightened defense to only trail 5-1 after the opening quarter.

Farmington hung with the Terriers after a Collelo man-down tally to open the second quarter with Hurley bring the Beavers to within four at 6-2 with 3:59 left in the quarter. Thomas followed with three goals over the final 2:58 of the period to push the lead to 9-2.

The two teams slogged through the next two quarters and combined on 109 turnovers in the contest. Averill led Thomas with a game-high 12 groundballs and four caused turnovers with Sam Wenckus (Pittston, ME) causing five turnovers. Thomas Ross (York, ME) came up with nine ground balls to lead the Beavers.

The Terriers pushed their advantage to 10 goals in the fourth on their way to the 14-5 victory.

Jesse Morkeski (Damariscotta, ME) made 10 saves in goal for Thomas.

Matthew Nutter (Swampscott, MA) stopped 19 shots for Farmington.
