The University of Louisville women's lacrosse team started off their final road trip of the season playing spoiler to host No. 19 Rutgers, taking a 14-9 decision from the Scarlet Knights, thus eliminating Rutgers from contention for the BIG EAST Tournament.

“Today was our best game in three years,” said University of Louisville women's lacrosse head coach Kellie Young. “We were discipline, focused and poised. The lessons learned in our close losses to other top 20 teams were used today.”

The Cardinals (10-6,3-4) got off to a slow start, allowing the Scarlet Knights (10-5,3-4) to score just 38 seconds into the game. Junior Emily Dashiell responded right back 47 seconds later to put U of L on the board. Fellow classmate Bergan Foley followed that up just seven seconds later with her first goal of the afternoon and team-leading 69th goal of the season. After a Scarlet Knights goal, sophomore Katie Oliverio found Dashiell to put U of L back ahead by a goal.

Rutgers managed to tie the game at three on a goal by Mary Cryan, but U of L charged right back led by the duo of Foley and Oliverio. Oliverio netted her first goal of the afternoon before finding Foley to put Louisville up by two goals. The Scarlet Knights came back with two goals to take a 5-5 tie into halftime.

Junior Liz Lovejoy came out of the break on fire, netting a hat trick in the first 4:05 of the second half, to put the Cards up for good. Lovejoy's goals included back to back goals seven seconds apart, the second time U of L scored goals within seven seconds of each other on the afternoon. Dashiell and Oliverio added their third and second goals of the afternoon respectively to expand the lead to four before Rutgers hit on back to back goals to cut the Cardinal lead to two.
