Rohrback Saves 19, as St. Lawrence Downs Hamilton

CLINTON, N.Y. -- Caldwell Rohrback '12 scored three goals and Andrew Cochran '10 made 19 saves to lead St. Lawrence University to a 9-4 win against Hamilton College in a Liberty League men's lacrosse game at Hamilton's Steuben Field on May 1.

In the regular season finale for both teams, St. Lawrence clinched a spot in the semifinals of the league tournament, which starts on Friday, May 7. The Saints needed a win at Hamilton and a Skidmore College win at Clarkson University. Skidmore obliged with a 10-6 victory against the Golden Knights.

St. Lawrence (8-6 overall, 3-3 Liberty) led 5-0 at the half thanks to outstanding play by Cochran, who made 11 saves after two quarters. Hamilton (10-4, 2-4) climbed to within 6-3 midway through the third quarter and thought it had cut the deficit to two goals after Paul Armideo '13 found the back of the net. However, the goal was disallowed because the Continentals had too many players on the field. The Saints scored the next two goals and Hamilton didn't threaten again.

Matt Pope '12 added two goals and one assist for the winners. Kyle Jacobson '12 chipped in two goals and Scott Smith '10 posted one goal and two assists. Steve Cargill '12 won all four of his faceoffs. Cochran and Nick Woodhull '10 picked up five ground balls apiece. Rohrback and John Manning '10 added four each.

Henry Burchenal '12 scored two of the Continentals' four goals. Luke Sadoff '12 assisted on both Burchenal goals. Burchenal led Hamilton with 34 goals this year. Max Vaickus '12 finished with 12 saves. Alex Duncan '10 collected a game-high eight ground balls and Paul Citarella '12 won 6 of 11 faceoffs.

St. Lawrence held a slim 38-37 edge in shots and picked up 35 ground balls to Hamilton's 27. Both teams won eight faceoffs. The Saints were 2 of 6 on extra-man opportunities and the Continentals scored on one of their two chances.
