No. 1 Stevenson Downs No. 14 Denison on Senior Day

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Senior Steve Kazimer (Syracuse, N.Y./Henninger) had three goals and one assist while senior Tyler Maguire (Montauk, N.Y./East Hampton) added one goal and one assist as the No. 1-ranked Stevenson men's lacrosse team closed the regular season with a 13-9 victory over No. 14 Denison Saturday at Caves Athletics Complex.

The Mustangs (17-1), who finished the season with seven consecutive wins and went 8-1 at home, will now await the selections for the 2010 NCAA Division III Men's Lacrosse Championship next Sunday, May 9 at 10:00 p.m., on CBS College Sports to see who and when they will play in their next game.

Junior Richie Ford (Baltimore/Towson) led all scorers with six points on three goals and three assists as Stevenson scored six of the game's first eight goals to lead 6-2 with 4:06 remaining in the second quarter.

The first 25 minutes proved to be the difference for the Mustangs as both teams scored seven goals apiece the remaining 35. In building a four-goal advantage during that first 25 minutes, Stevenson outshot the Big Red, 28-13.

Denison (10-3), who suffered its first loss in eight non-conference games this season, tallied two goals in the final three minutes of the second quarter by Alex Hardt and Emmett Jones just 11 seconds apart to cut their deficit to 6-4 at the half.

However, that would be as close as the Big Red would get as the Mustangs opened the second half with back-to-back goals by Ford and Kazimer and outscored Denison by one in both the third and fourth quarter to maintain its final margin of four.

Junior Jimmy Dailey (Westminster/Winters Mill) remains just shy of three career milestones as he finished with two goals and one assist and now has 197 career points on 99 goals and 98 assists.

Senior Sean Calabrese (Rockville/DeMatha) had two assists while senior Dave Cougler (Rochester, N.Y./G. Ray Bodley) added one assist. Senior Geoff Hebert (Lutherville/Dulaney) made 10 saves in winning his 10th game this season and is now 26-2 as a starter.

Jones and Hardt combined for seven of the Big Red's nine goals as they totaled four and three, respectively. Gregg Shannon had 13 saves.
