Susquehanna Drops Regular-Season Finale at Drew

MADISON, N.J. - Susquehanna University's junior midfielder Sarah Wright (Princeton, N.J./Princeton HS) scored a game-high-tying three goals, but visiting Susquehanna fell at Drew University, 13–9, in a Landmark Conference women's lacrosse game at Ranger Stadium on May 1.

Susquehanna (10–6, 3–2 Landmark) trailed Drew (9–7, 4–1 Landmark), 2–0, after the first 2 minutes, 15 seconds of the game before netting its first goal with 25:44 left in the first half. Drew then went on a four-goal run to increase its lead to five goals. SU managed to net two more goals in the first half and go into the break down, 8–3.

SU brought the game to within two goals, 8–6, by way of all three of Wright's goals over a 6:07 span. Drew went on another four-goal run to go up, 12–6, and put the pressure back on the Crusaders to try for a late-game rally. The Crusaders tried to claw back but they could only bring the game to within three goals the rest of the way.

Sophomore attack Erin Dyer (West Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) also tallied three goals and scooped up three ground balls. Dyer's first goal was scored unassisted with 12:09 left in the first half. Her other two scores came in the late second-half comeback attempt, both from free positions.

Fellow sophomore attack Ally Bauer (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) tallied a goal, assisted on two others and won three draw controls. Bauer's goal came from a free position with just 3:53 left in the contest.

SU's sophomore midfielder Marra Landino (Brownsville, Vt./Kimball Union Academy) recorded the first Crusaders goal. Landino also caused a game-high-tying three turnovers. Freshman attack Phoebe Nicholls (Princeton, N.J./Rutgers Prep) scored her 32nd goal off the season in the first half off a pass from Wright.

Freshman Emily Stankaitis (Honeoye Falls, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) played all 60 minutes in the cage and made a game-high 20 saves in the loss. Stankaitis also picked up a team-high four ground balls.

Even with the loss, SU locks up the No. 3 seed in this year's Landmark championships. The Crusaders will travel back to No. 2–seeded Drew on Wednesday, May 5, for their conference semifinal game at a time still to be announced.
