Castleton Advances in NAC Tournament over Thomas

Castleton, VT - Michael Martinez (Barrington, IL) scored a game-high six goals and dished out one assist to lead the Castleton State College mens lacrosse team, 21-1, over Thomas College in the quarterfinal round of the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Tournament on Saturday night at Spartan Stadium on Senior Night.

The Spartans improve to 11-5 overall on the season and play Husson on Wednesday, May 5 in the semifinal round of the NAC Tournament at Spartan Stadium with a time to be determined later. The Terriers season ends at 4-9 overall.

David Manghis (Acton, MA), Robert Hass (Farmington, CT), Daniel Luzzi (Oakland, NJ), Robert Schroeder (Salisbury, VT), Korey Counos (St. Albans, VT), Martinez and Jake Rick (Rochester, NY) were all honored after the game for their contributions to the Castleton State College mens lacrosse program.

Offensively for Castleton, Nohea King (St. Albans, VT) netted four markers, Counos scored three goals, Samuel Bailey (Hartford, VT) found the back of the net twice and Jeremy Peyton (Montpelier, VT), Rick, Luke Titus (So. Burlington, VT), Alexandre Brands (Woodstock, VT) Luzzi and David Whitlock (Randolph, VT) scored a marker each.

Bailey led the Spartans transition dishing out a game-high six assists while teammate Kevin McCarthy (Johnson, VT) handed out four assists.

Josh Colello (Yarmouth, ME) scored the lone goal for Thomas coming at the 2:06 mark of the second half. Sean Machin (Brunswick, ME) assisted on the marker.

Craig MacDerment (Clifton Park, NY) was 13-15 in faceoffs for the Spartans as Castleton went 22 for 26 in that category. The Spartans also led the game in clears going 18 for 25.
