No. 13 Nazareth Sails by Medaille to Go 12-4

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Senior Mark DeCirce (Binghamton HS/Binghamton, NY) tallied five goals and one assist to lead host Nazareth to a 22-9 victory over Medaille in a non-conference men's lacrosse game. Junior Joe Jacobs-Ferderbar (Orchard Park HS/Orchard Park, NY) added three goals and recorded four assists to help ignite the Golden Flyers' offense.

With the victory, 13th-ranked Nazareth closes the regular season with a 12-4 overall record. Medaille falls to 8-8 overall following the loss. The Golden Flyers finish the season third in the Empire 8 standings and will travel to RIT for a semifinal game Friday afternoon. Nazareth will be looking to avenge the loss they suffered to the Tigers just last Saturday in the rematch. St. John Fisher finished first in the conference after suffering its only loss to the Golden Flyers April 21st. The Cardinals will host Ithaca in the other semi-final.

The Mavericks opened the first quarter with two quick goals to claim a 2-0 lead 5:51 into the game. Sophomore C.J. Estes (Hebron Academy/Medfield, MA) scored Nazareth's first goal with 5:26 to play in the quarter. About two minutes later, the Golden Flyers claimed their first lead of the game after Estes set up DeCirce's first goal, and McLean scored an unassisted goal after controlling the faceoff.

After Medaille temporarily evened the score, 3-3, midway through the second quarter, Nazareth rattled off nine consecutive goals spanning the remainder of the second quarter and the the first 6:26 of the third quarter to stretch its lead to 12-3.

Senior Kurt Detwiler (Webster Thomas HS/Webster, NY) started the scoring run with an unassisted goal. Jacobs-Ferderbar and DeCirce each found the back of the net midway through the quarter before Jacobs-Ferderbar scored again with 13 seconds to play in the first half. DeCirce's goal came thanks to determination on the crease as he battled the Mavericks' goalie for loose ball, and after collecting it, he converted the scoring opportunity.

In the first minutes of the second half, DeCirce, McLean, Brian Wright, (Don Bosco Prep/Franklin Lakes, NJ) Estes, and Jacobs-Ferderbar each scored. McLean's goal came just seven seconds after DeCirce scored as McLean won the ensuing faceoff to set up a fast break. Jacobs-Ferderbar set-up Wright's goal with a well-timed pass, and Estes scored after the Golden Flyers won another faceoff.

After two goals by Medialle cut Nazareth's lead to 12-5, the Golden Flyers answered with four straight goals in a span of just over four minutes. Defensive midfielder Kyle Brown (Catonsville HS/Baltimore, MD) tallied his sixth goal of the game with 5:40 to play in the quarter, which was followed by Detwiler's second goal of the game, DeCirce's fourth goal of the game, and a goal by junior Mike Centra.(Jamesville-DeWitt/DeWitt, NY) Medaille closed the quarter with a goal to cut Nazareth's lead to 16-6 going into the final quarter.

DeCirce opened the fourth period with a man-up goal after he received a pass from Jacobs-Ferderbar. After winning the faceoff, freshman Dennis Tomsky (Watchung Regional/Warren, NJ) tallied his first career goal as he scored on the ensuing fast break opportunity.

Centra and Tomsky each added their second goal of the game a few minutes later to stretch Nazareth's lead to 20-7. Junior Adam Nauerth (Brockport HS/Brockport, NY) added his fourth goal of the season and senior John Manion (Geneva HS/Geneva, NY) scored his second goal of the season after receiving a pass from junior Doug Milano-Johnson (Pittsford Suthlerand HS/Pittsford, NY) to close out the Golden Flyers' scoring.
