Players of the Week - Eastern Region, May 10
By Ryan Rohde
This week we salute a red-hot attacker in Virginia, a Pennsylvania goalie getting it done on both sides of the field, and a player breaking records in the Empire State.
Matt Straface, Goalie, Boyertown Bears (PA)
Straface made his presence felt on both ends of the field in Boyertown's 11-9 win over Owen J. Roberts. The goaltender made 24 stops, including 10 in the fourth quarter. Straface also added two assists for the 10-8 Bears.
Ryan Madigan, Attack, Broad Run Spartans (VA)
Madigan exploded for 20 points in two games last week. The Junior put in six goals and three assists in the Spartans 16-8 win over Briar Woods on May 3rd. He followed that up with a nine-goal, two-assist output in Thursday's 16-11 win over Loudoun Valley. That brings Madigan's season total to 50 goals and 32 assists.
James Pannell, Attack, Smithtown West Bulls (NY)
Pannell had a record-setting day in Smithtown West's 15-7 win over West Babylon. The sophomore netted two goals to go along with a school record-tying six assists, which is now shared with his older brother, and Cornell standout, Rob. Earlier in the week, Pannell scored five goals in the Bulls 10-7 win over Connetquot.
