Players of the Week - Western Region, May 10

By Brett Manney

This week we take a look at an Arizona midfielder coming up in the clutch, a California midfielder leading his team to an overtime win, and a midfielder in the Pacific Northwest overcoming injury to make big contributions to his squad.

Ben Gassmann, Midfield, Notre Dame Prep (AZ)
With his squad clinging to a three-goal halftime lead, Gassmann erupted in the third quarter for three goals and two assists to help the Saints clinch a 16-6 win over Phoenix Country Day School (AZ). The stud midfielder finished the day with eight points on five goals and three assists securing the eighth win a row for the Saints.

Seth Benson, Midfield, Foothill-Pleasanton (CA)
In a huge North Coast section game, the Falcons emerged behind Benson's heroics to conquer De La Salle (CA) 14-13 in overtime. Benson's tally in overtime was his fourth goal of the day--in addition to one assist--which sealed the win for the Falcons.

Sten Jernudd, Midfield, Lakeside (WA)
Last week the Cornell-bound midfielder racked up 18 points in two wins over rivals Northshore (WA) and Stadium (WA). After starting the season late because of an injury, Jernudd has been scorching opponents in the Evergreen state. Sten Jernudd is the Player of the week.
