No. 5 Duke Runs Past No. 4 UNC to Advance to Final Four

The Blue Devils came right back with two goals just 22 seconds apart. Crotty scored on a dodge from behind at 2:23 and Justin Turri scored unassisted at 2:01. Carolina then pulled back within three goals as Dunster scored his career-high fourth goal in the game with 1.6 seconds left on an unassisted tally from 15 yards out top.

The Blue Devils outscored the Tar Heels 3-2 in the third quarter to carry a four-goal lead into the final period. Steve Schoeffel scored 1:06 into the quarter for his second goal of the game to give Duke a 10-6 lead. Carolina answered with a goal by Gavin Petracca off an assist by Thomas Wood. Petracca scored goal line extended on the left side off Wood's pass at 12:26.

The Blue Devils answered with a goal by Zach Howell, his third of the game, on a dodge from the left side. The Heels momentarily pulled back with three goals at 2:50 as Thomas Wood scored an extra-man goal, his second tally of the game, off an assist by Petracca. Duke answered 11 seconds later as C.J. Costabile scored an unassisted goal after winning the face-off.

Duke scored the opening two goals of the fourth quarter as Max Quinzani scored a fast break goal at 12:25 off Crotty's third assist of the match. Fifty-nine seconds later Quinzani scored off an assist by Turri to make it 14-8. Duke's Howell scored on a hard shot from the left side off an assist by Steve Schoeffel to give Duke a 15-8 lead with 7:33 left in the match. After a procedure call against UNC on the face-off, Costabile scored again for Duke to make it 16-8 with 7:12 left in the fourth quarter. Crotty scored with 6:07 left to make it 17-8 Duke on a hard shot from the right side. UNC's Billy Bitter scored his second goal of the game with 3:13 left I the match to cut the Blue Devils' lead to 17-9.
