Midwestern Region Players of the Week, May 24

By Brett Manney

This week we take a look at a red-hot attacker in Michigan, a clutch midfielder in Nebraska, and a Minnesota stand-out with a penchant for late-game heroics.

Casey Mannes, Attack, Portage Central (MI)
In the first round of the Michigan Division-II state tournament Mannes went off for nine goals in his squad's 23-1 win over Battle Creek Lakeview (MI). Mannes had the hot hand, scoring on nine of his 15 shots and lifting Portage Central to the next round.

Peter Stoll, Midfield, Creighton Prep (NE)
The athletic midfielder elevated his game leading Creighton Prep (NE) to a 9-2 win over Millard West (NE) in the Nebraska state championship game. The clutch performer contributed five goals in one of the best performances this season in the Cornhusker State.

Jack Markusen, Midfield, Blake (MN)
With the game on the line the senior leader rose to the occasion, scoring the game-winning goal with less than three seconds left. Blake won the battle of unbeatens against Benilde-St. Margaret, 11-10 (MN). The multi-sport athlete finished with two goals in a monumental win for the Bears.
