Eastern Region Players of the Week, June 14

As seasons wrap up across the country, a handful of players are stepping up in big ways during the most crucial games of the season. Find out who cemented their legacy on the field this past week.

Nicky Galasso, Attack, West Islip (NY)
Galasso finished his high school career in record fashion. The senior tallied one goal and six assists as West Islip beat Fairport, 13-5, to win its second straight NY Class "A" state title. Galasso's sixth point broke the all-time Long Island scoring record while his seventh point gave him 500 for his career. The North Carolina-bound attackman finished 2010 with 136 points on 66 goals and 70 assists.

Nate Gaudio, Goalie, Cheshire (CT)
Gaudio was instrumental in Cheshire beating Fairfield Prep for the third time this season and capturing the Class L state title. The goaltender made 14 stops and added an assist in the 9-8 victory. This win ended Fairfield Prep's bid for a fifth straight crown and this is Cheshire's first title since 2002.

Matt Thistle, Attack, Bishop Guertin (NH)
Thistle help thwart an Exeter comeback as Bishop Guertin captured the state championship, 15-10. The junior paced the Cardinals with two goals and three assists. This is the third state championship in the past six years for the Southern New Hampshire power.

Case Matheis, Attack, Darien (CT)
Matheis had a championship game performance that may never be topped. In Darien's 17-5 win over New Fairfield, the sophomore attackman tallied an incredible 14 points on nine goals and five assists. Matheis was 7-of-8 shooting in the first half. This was the sixth consecutive class "M" title for Darien.
