National Online Lacrosse Tournament: Round 2

The second round of LaxPower’s National Online Lacrosse Tournament features 16 games against teams from coast to coast. The teams were seeded by power rating on an S-curve to create tournament brackets and winners were determined based on votes from a panel of LaxPower experts and the LaxPower Power Rankings.

The 16 winners from this round move on, and the sweet 16 of the NOLT will be unveiled soon. Check back to see how your favorite team does in high school lacrosse’s virtual national tournament!

Determining the Winners

Winners are determined based on votes from LaxPower’s panel and by using the LaxPower computer Power Ratings (PR) as the fifth vote. The computer ratings were employed in creating a probability function such that the larger Team A’s PR differential vs. Team B, the greater the odds that they would win when a small group of random numbers was generated. This means that the computer may pick an underdog and that upsets are possible.

Philadelphia Bracket

(1) West Islip (NY) 99.92 vs. (8) Boys’ Latin (MD) 98.66
  • BM: WI advances, but this game is not easy, as they escape with a 10-8 victory. Pick: West Islip

  • RR: Both teams are loaded with talent, and BL is one of the few teams I think could knock off West Islip, but not this time. Galasso will garner much of the attention, which will open the door for Andrew Hodgson to have a big day. West Islip wins in a close one. Pick: West Islip

  • GB: Pick: West Islip

  • MX: Strong Island vs B'more. Love the match-up. The boys from Higby Lane win again easier than you would think. Yo. Strong Island in da house. Pick: West Islip

  • Computer: Pick: West Islip

  • Winner: West Islip

(2) Summit (NJ) 99.66 vs. (10) Cherry Creek (CO) 98.45
  • BM: Summit has a stud goalie, but I think their lack of competition hurts them in this game and they fall in overtime to Cherry Creek. Pick: Cherry Creek

  • RR: Great match-up of state champs. The game is close throughout, but Summit’s defense takes them into the next round. Pick: Summit

  • GB: Pick: Summit

  • MX: Another good match-up. Summit is just better on defense. The Jersey squad by 3 or 4. Pick: Summit

  • Computer: Pick: Summit

  • Winner: Summit

(3) St. Anthony’s (NY) 99.63 vs. (11) Bishop Guertin (NH) 98.38
  • BM: After pulling off the upset in round one, Bishop Guertin finds trouble in trying to stop St. Anthony’s big guns and falls to the Friars. Pick: St. Anthony’s

  • RR: St. Anthony’s is too deep for Bishop Guertin. The Friars pull away in the second half and take themselves into round three. Pick: St. Anthony’s

  • GB: Pick: St. Anthony’s

  • MX: Bishop Guertin make a stop to Pats for a cheesesteak with wiz. However, the Friars like Gino's and win by 6. Pick: St. Anthony’s

  • Computer: Pick: St. Anthony’s

  • Winner: St. Anthony’s

(4) Ithaca (NY) 99.22 vs. (5) Chaminade (NY) 99.15
  • BM: The difference in this game will be face-offs, and Ithaca has one of the best in Gabe Mendola. Pick: Ithaca

  • RR: A game almost too close to call. Chaminade has a great defense in Ehrhardt and Urbank, but Gabe Mendola wins the face-off battles to give Ithaca the crucial extra possessions. Ithaca moves on. Pick: Ithaca

  • GB: Pick: Chaminade

  • MX: Best game of the round for the Philly bracket. Chaminade in OT. Their defense is flat out choking. Pick: Chaminade

  • Computer: Pick: Chaminade

  • Winner: Chaminade
