National Online Lacrosse Tournament: Round 3

The third round of LaxPower’s National Online Lacrosse Tournament features 8 games between the top teams in the country. Teams were seeded by power rating on an S-curve to create tournament brackets, and winners were determined based on votes from a panel of LaxPower experts and the LaxPower Power Rankings.

The winners from this round move on, and the elite 8 of the NOLT will face off on Wednesday. Check back to see how your favorite team does in high school lacrosse’s virtual national tournament.

Get caught up by viewing the original bracket and the first-round and second-round results.

Determining the Winners

Winners are determined based on votes from LaxPower’s panel and by using the LaxPower computer Power Ratings (PR) as the fifth vote. The computer ratings were employed in creating a probability function such that the larger Team A’s PR differential vs. Team B, the greater the odds that they would win when a small group of random numbers was generated. This means that the computer may pick an underdog and that upsets are possible.

Philadelphia Bracket

(1) West Islip (NY) 99.92 vs. (5) Chaminade (NY) 99.15
  • BM: In this epic battle of Nassau vs. Suffolk county and Private vs. Public, I like West Islip in a thriller 10-8. Pick: West Islip

  • RR: West Islip won the first meeting, 10-7, on April 3. The Lions won two straight titles by knowing how to win big games. Chaminade give them all they can handle, but West Islip escapes late in the fourth quarter. Pick: West Islip

  • GB: Pick: West Islip

  • MX: Chaminade is very talented. I may have said this already, but West Islip is just flat out better than Chaminade. Pick: West Islip

  • Computer: Pick: West Islip

  • Winner: West Islip

(2) Summit (NJ) 99.66 vs. (3) St. Anthony’s (NY) 99.63
  • BM: St. Anthony’s plethora of stars, including Thomas Schreiber, find a kink in goalie Brian Feeney’s armor and take down New Jersey’s best, 9-6. Pick: St. Anthony’s

  • RR: The Hilltoppers’ defense vs. the Friars’ offense. Bobby Lawrence and Brian Feeney help limit St. Anthony’s scoring chances, but Tom Schreiber, Brendan Schroeder, and Joe LoCascio make enough plays to get the Friars into the next round. Pick: St. Anthony’s

  • GB: Pick: St. Anthony’s

  • MX: Summit didn't give up double-digit goals all year and St. Anthony's only once. Pick 'em. I pick St. Anthony's. Pick: St. Anthony’s

  • Computer: Pick: Summit

  • Winner: St. Anthony’s
