Loyola Lacrosse Announces Recruiting Class of 2014

BALTIMORE The Loyola University Maryland men's lacrosse team has announced a group of 13 players that will comprise the Greyhounds' Class of 2014, Head Coach Charley Toomey announced today.

Joining the program in the fall of 2010 will be Peter Bowes (Walpole, Mass./Walpole H.S.), Kyle Duffy (Chapel Hill, N.C./Chapel Hill H.S.), Joe Fletcher (Syracuse, N.Y./West Genesee H.S.), Ian Gordon (Arlington, Va./St. Stephen's & St. Agnes/Salisbury School), Patrick Laconi (Morristown, N.J./Morristown H.S.), Thomas Robinson (Reston, Va./Langley H.S.), Austin Rogusky (Devon, Pa./Conestoga H.S.), Jack Runkel (Fairfield, Conn./Avon Old Farms School), Kevin Ryan (Mountain Lakes, N.J./Mountain Lakes H.S.), Matthew Sawyer (Waxhaw, N.C./Charlotte Catholic H.S.), Brian Schultz (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville H.S.), Justin Ward (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill H.S.), and Derek Zook (Purcellville, Va./Loudon Valley H.S.).

"This is a class that we think will be a great addition to the Greyhound program," Toomey said. "As excited as we are about their athleticism and skill sets, we are more excited about the character that they will bring to Loyola. They are truly great young men, and we can't wait to get them on campus and the field."

"We are very excited about the defensive additions to the class of 2014," Loyola's Defensive Coordinator, Matt Dwan, said. "From top to bottom, it is a group of defensemen with great size and athletic ability. It was our goal to add a group of guys who can really defend the ball well, as well as push the ball up the field in transition and help generate offense."

Loyola Offensive Coordinator Dan Chemotti added, "My excitement for this class is due in large part to the different dynamic that each player will add to our roster. Their individual skills and various strengths are complimentary to each other and how they develop throughout their careers should be fun to watch. I think it is also a hard-working group that appreciates the game of lacrosse and will put in a lot of time on their own in an effort to improve."

Peter Bowes earned Bay State League All-Star First Team honors as a defender following his junior and senior seasons in 2009 and 2010 at Walpole High School. He also earned Eastern Massachusetts All-Star honors, was a Massachusetts All-American and earned Team Defensive MVP honors as a senior. A high school teammate of current Loyola player Davis Butts, Bowes picked up 117 groundballs, scored five goals and assisted on seven others as a senior, as he helped Walpole finish the season with a 18-4 record and a Bay State League title. In 2009, the Rebels went 24-1 and won the Massachusetts Division II State Championship.

Bowes, who has been a member of the honor roll throughout high school, was selected to play for the Boston Adidas team during the summer of 2009, and he helped his club team, NESLL U19 Black to the semifinals of the Brine shootout and Champ Camp. In addition to his lacrosse accolades, Bowes has been a successful football player for Walpole. He started at outside linebacker on the 2008 team that won the state title, and he was the starting quarterback and All-Bay State League player and Eastern Massachusetts All-Star in 2009.

Kyle Duffy was a two-time All-State performer at Chapel Hill High School, helping the Tigers reach the state championship game his first three seasons. The squad won the 2007 and 2008 state championship and earned runners-up honors in 2009. A team captain his senior season, Duffy was an All-Star First Team member in 2010 and a third team honoree in 2009. He earned All-Conference First Team recognition as a junior and senior and was the Boys' Lacrosse Conference 5 Player of the Year as a senior.
