Mercer Announces Recruiting Class for Inaugural Season

MACON, Ga. Mercer University men's lacrosse head coach Jason Childs charged with fielding the school's first-ever intercollegiate team in the spring of 2011 has released his initial list of incoming student-athletes who have committed to play for MU. The Bears' team will be the first-ever NCAA Division I men's lacrosse program in the state of Georgia.

Childs' initial list of Mercer men's lacrosse players is composed of a total of 25 incoming student-athletes - all true freshmen who represent a total of 10 states. Georgia provides 10 of the recruits, three come from Florida, while the states of Kansas, Maryland, Tennessee and New York will each have two representatives. Virginia, South Carolina, Illinois and Michigan each contributed one member to the initial list of incoming Bears.

"I am very pleased with our first class of recruits," said Childs. "I believe they bring a good lacrosse skill set and the perfect temperament for Mercer's program. I think it says so much about each of these young men to make a commitment to come to a start-up program when most if not all of them could have instead gone on to established lacrosse programs.

"I believe they will be recognized as the cornerstone of what will become a great lacrosse program at Mercer University."

Mercer's opening day roster is also expected to include as many as 10 players (one senior, three juniors and six sophomores) who played on the Bears' club team in the spring of 2010. When all is said-and-done, Childs expects his roster to rise to the neighborhood of 50 players, pending either completed paperwork and/or commitments from several other potential student-athletes who have expressed interest in the Bears' program.

The inaugural list of 25 incoming student-athletes who have made a commitment to play for the Bears includes the following:
