Ryan Alexander Joins St. Mary's as Assistant Coach

St. Mary's City, Md. Chris Hasbrouck, St. Mary's College of Maryland head men's lacrosse coach, is pleased to announce the return of All-American Ryan Alexander (Laurel, Md.) to the St. Mary's campus as the assistant men's lacrosse coach and intramurals coordinator.

"I'm very pleased and excited to have Ryan join our staff. I have no doubt that he will bring all of the passion and intensity to the sideline that he exhibited throughout his playing career," stated Hasbrouck.

Hasbrouck added, "As a recent graduate and one of the most highly decorated players in the history of the College, he will bring his unique perspective to the team. Ryan knows what it takes to compete at the highest levels of DIII college lacrosse and fully understands the academic challenges and rewards the College offers. He is highly motivated and enthusiastic and will be an excellent role model for our student/athletes."

As Hasbrouck alluded to, Alexander is coming off an illustrious career at St. Mary's. He was an All-American and a four-time All-Capital Athletic Conference selection as well as a three-year team captain. Alexander was one of the program's best midfielders, amassing 144 points on 98 goals and 46 assists. He was an outstanding defender as well, scooping up 119 ground balls and causing 21 turnovers.

"Coaching lacrosse has been a dream of mine ever since high school, where my appreciation for the sport itself deepened. This career path is one few actually get to follow. I am fortunate enough to have this dream become a reality," said Alexander.

Alexander represented the Seahawks at the 2010 USILA/LaxWorld Division III North/South Senior All-Star Game while excelling in the classroom as an economics major. He was selected as an USILA Scholar All-American after earning a cumulative GPA above 3.0.

"Being an alumnus of St. Mary's, I look forward to being part of the team once again. I owe this chance to Coach and would like to thank him along with Scott Devine and Shawne McCoy," responded Alexander.

Last season, the Seahawks finished with their first 10-win season since 2007 with the help of Alexander's strong leadership and dedicated play, earning a 10-6 (5-2 CAC) record and advancing to the conference semifinals.
