UMass Lacrosse Names Eileen Finn as Assistant Coach

AMHERST, Mass. - UMass women's lacrosse head coach Angela McMahon has named former Syracuse standout Eileen Finn as assistant coach. Finn is a 2010 graduate of Syracuse, where she was a four-year starter on defense and an All-Big East First Team selection. Finn joins McMahon and Sarah Albrecht who was named Associate Head Coach in early August.

"Eileen is a strong addition to our staff both as a player and a person," said McMahon. "Both on and off the field she achieved success at Syracuse and that is something that will translate into her coaching."

"I am excited about joining the UMass women's lacrosse program and helping the team continue its strong tradition of success in the Atlantic 10," said Finn. "This is a great program with a long history of excellence in women's lacrosse."

Finn was an All-Big East First Team selection as a senior defender in 2010 for the Orange. During her career, she earned Big East All-Academic honors on three occasions, was named to the IWLCA Academic Squad and was named the WomensLacrosse.com Unsung Hero of the Year in 2010.

Additionally, the native of Southington, Conn., served as the Vice-President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, was the secretary of Women in Sports and Events (WISE) and served as a Syracuse Student Ambassador.

This past summer, Finn worked as an U.S. Olympic Committee, Paralympics, Military Programs Intern in Colorado Springs, Colo. She also spent time working as a coach and event manager for Bounce Entertainment in Brooklyn, N.Y.

UMass is coming off its second straight Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship season. Highlighted by All-American Jackie Lyons, 11 of the Minutewomen's 12 starters from a season ago will return for 2011 including six of the top seven scorers. The entire defensive unit anchored by goalie Katie Florence will return as well.
