Denver to Host 2nd Annual Colorado Lacrosse Showcase

DENVER--The University of Denver men's lacrosse team will play some of the top professional lacrosse players in the second annual Colorado Lacrosse Showcase on Saturday, Oct. 23 at 1:30 p.m. at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. Prior to the start of the game, the Pioneers will host their annual alumni game.

"Last year's game against the Denver Outlaws of Major League Lacrosse was the kick-off for a fantastic 2010 season for the Denver Pioneers," said head coach Bill Tierney. "This year's contest against the pro players should prove to be just as exciting. There is no more beautiful venue in collegiate lacrosse than our own Peter Barton Stadium and I know that our many talented freshmen, as well as our returning veterans look forward to their first game together."

Tickets are $5 if purchased in advance and $7 if purchased the day of the event at the DU Box Office. Tickets will go on sale Friday, Oct. 1 at 10:00 a.m. They can be purchased through TicketMaster.com or at the Box Office, located in the Daniel L. Ritchie Center on the DU campus. Admission for DU students is free with a valid Pioneer Card.

Following the game, the Denver Outlaws will host the Colorado Lacrosse Showcase Youth Clinic from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the field at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium, open to boys from second to eighth grade.

Admission for the youth clinic is $50 and includes a ticket to the Colorado Lacrosse Showcase game. DU head coach Bill Tierney will make an appearance along with assistant coaches Trevor Tierney and Matt Brown. Trevor Teirney is a former Denver Outlaws player and coach, while Brown is a current Denver Outlaws player.

Skills covered in the clinic include shooting, dodging, footwork, one-on-one defense, clearing and transition work. An autograph session with the Denver Outlaws will also be included.

Following the afternoon's festivities, the Pioneers will host their first-ever Denver Lacrosse Fall Celebration Dinner at the Cherry Hills Country Club. The dinner will serve to celebrate the Pioneers' accomplishments during the 2010 season that included the 2010 ECAC Championship, a perfect 7-0 conference record and a trip to the NCAA Tournament.

The Pioneers will also honor the DU All-Decade Team and important friends of the DU men's lacrosse program.
