Ashley Gilroy Hired as Coach of New Catawba Program

Catawba College announced today that women's lacrosse is being added to its athletics program. The announcement was made by Dr. W. Craig Turner, president, and Dennis Davidson, director of athletics. With the addition of lacrosse, which will begin play in the 2011-2012 school year, Catawba will field nine varsity women's sports.

While the women's lacrosse program will begin as an independent, Davidson said, the nearby Conference Carolinas has eight women's lacrosse programs, which should lead to scheduling opportunities for Catawba's new program.

Ashley M. Gilroy has signed on as the head coach for the new team and plans to begin recruiting. Gilroy is a 2005 graduate from C.W. Post, where she played and was a four-year starter, two-time All-American, three-time All-tournament team, and four-time NCAA tournament semifinalist. Gilroy has coaching experience at both the collegiate and high school levels.
